Origin of Kumbh Mela

According to Hindu beliefs, the Kumbh Mela is connected with Samudra Manthan. It is one of the most famous fights between "Devtas "and "Asurs," or gods and evils for the "Amrit." Both god and evil wanted to get Amrit's pot and to resolve the fight, lord Vishnu's immortal avatar Mohini took responsibility for its distribution. Meanwhile, few Amrit spilled on the four places of earth and all those places are chosen for Kumbh Mela. Therefore, after every cycle, the mela comes to these places, which include Haridwar, Prayagraj, Ujjain, and Trimbak (Nashik).
